What song do you hear that takes you back to high school?
Love Removal. Love Removal Mach-haynehanyehane.
What song do you hear that really fills you full of regret?
I don’t really regret. I get pensive, and filled with nostalgia. Dire Straights “Brothers in Arms,” does it to me.
Update: I have been thinking about this. Mostly on my drive home and I have a few additions. There are certain songs that make me melancholy for nonspecific reasons. Among them, Elvis Costello's "Allison," the Vervepipe's "Freshman." and Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors."
Oh my, and then there is this song by Chris Robinson.
What am I thinking? "Drummer Like Me" by Trip Shakespeare, the song I first... oh.. never mind. You ladies will understand. But, like I said, no regrets, just nostalgia.
What song restores your faith in humanity?
I don’t know if I have lost faith in humanity. I’m sort of optimistic that way.
What song truly makes you smile?
Beastie Boys. Sabotage! If it comes on, it goes way up. I do the same thing with old Beastie too. How can you NOT sing, “It’s finger-lickin good, yall?”
What song can’t you wait to play for your kid?
I’m already playing songs for my kid. Only, anything I have just mentioned gets me a, “No yike it.”
Maybe I just need to cultivate him a little longer.
UPDATE!
I turned up something rockin' in the car on the way home from Grandma's house today and I heard protests from the backseat, "No Mama! Too YOWD!!"
Now, in an effort to get him to stop watching TV and eat his dinner I changed the channel to MusicChoice "Soft Rock" and he is totally digging Ambrosia's "You're the Only Woman (that I'm Dreaming Of)" 1980. Its horrendous and he's sort of swaying at the table and humming. All advice is welcome at this point. Maybe I shouldn't rush it.
What song didn’t used to mean anything to you… and now it really does make an impact?
Oh my god, Stevie Nicks singing “Landslide.” When she starts out, “this one is for you, daddy,” I just sort of well up. “Children get older and I’m getting older, too.” Yes, I am. We all are.
What song takes you back to college?
Hmm. Danny Boy, only in that every time I hear it I think of the time my roommate Katie sang it to me to cover the sound of my puking into a toilet at a fraternity party as drunk party-goers banged on the bathroom door. “Oh Danny BooOOOOOYYYY – (Hoooo-AHHkkk!)” She held my hair too. She’s a real friend.
Also, Red Hot Chili Pepper's “Higher Ground.” It still fucking rocks and I go a little nuts when I hear it, which isn’t often enough. You know what? That’s what I want to play for Beck. That and House of Pain “Jump! Jump! Jump! Everybody Jump!” Another college classic. Oh, and Indigo Girls. Cheesy, I know. Sorry. It was the early 90s, what can I say. I won’t play that tripe for Beck.
What song would be the first song on your iPod if you were stranded on a desert island?
The first? Would there be a first if I put everything on shuffle?
What band influenced you the most?
Hmmm. DePeche Mode, maybe? The Cure? Both influenced me to be an angsty, brooding, asshole teenager. I got over it.
(What about you all?)
*As seen at CityMama.
Ohhh ... I think for me, the song I can't wait to play (but will because it will BREAK MY HEART when they hate it) is "To Defy the Laws of Tradition" off Primus' Frizzle Fry album. ... which I will have to purchase AGAIN because I have no cassette player.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Yes, but just think about how much better the sound quality will be! And no annoying "KLACK-choink" when it hits the end and stops!

Innnnnteresting.
- I'm right there with ya on "Freshmen"... boatloads of drama. Good stuff.
- That Chris Robinson song reminds me - in several ways - of Pink Floyd's "Two Suns in the Sunset." Seriously. I'm not losing my mind here. (Why are you all looking at me like that?)
