When I was about nine, our church had a young priest named something long and German like Father Schmeggenacherdorfer. He was handsome, enthusiastic and engaged in an 80's kind of way. During holiday masses he used to invite all the children up to the alter to sit, chat and share. Most of the time I watched in awe, but one Christmas, I decided I wanted a piece of that action so I climbed over my mother and made a beeline up to sit at the right hand of Father S, celebrity priest. After a rather lengthy retelling of the story of the baby Jesus and the long trek to Bethelhem, he turned his Mr. Microphone to me and asked, "What do you think Mary and Joseph were thankful for that night?" I answered,
"The Donkey. With out the donkey Mary would have had to walk the whole way and then she might have lost the baby."
So there you go! Have the happiest holiday of choice and we'll see you when we get back from Greensboro!
My favorite kid comment, while on the microphone at the alter, was when my oldest made the announcement that we were having yet another baby. We had told no one, not even our parents. We made our announcement right after the service!
I like yours much better though!
I'm from Greensboro! Have fun while you are there!
Happy whatever-holiday-you-want-to--celebrate!
