Courtesy of Jon. Thanks for that little ear worm. I think. I made the mistake of showing it to Beck, "Again!" and "Again!" and "Again!" and now I have my own little blond Butters running around the house.
I've had a few inquiries about the name, "Lucille Marian." My son just had a tantrum to end all tantrums and has, from lack of oxygen, passed out next to his bed. We'll call this little break, "nap time" and I will resist sharing all of the sordid out-of-control hysterical fit details. I will share that at one point I yelled, "the power of Christ compels you! The power of Christ compels you!" and an "A Your Adorable" board book came flying at my head.
Lucille
My Husband's god mother. When I first met Lucille, former model and opera singer, she was wearing red leather pants and at 65 girlfriend was wearing them well. He could never pronounce Lucille so he called her Lulu. It stuck. She lives up in Ottawa with her former hockey playing husband Rod. When we told her what we had named the baby, we could hear her yelling at him, "HEY! Hey RAHD! Dey named dah baybee LOO LOO!!!" (That was the best I could do phonetically on a very thick Canadian accent.)
Marian
My aunt in Ireland. I have written about her before as she is simply my favorite. She is wonderful and wise. Kind and generous. She never had kids of her own. Never found the right person. She came over for my brother's wedding and while at a bar the night before I whispered in her ear the name. It was a mistake and bad timing. She started crying and spent the next 20 minutes in the bathroom pulling herself together while everyone asked where she was. She later said, "This gives my life so much meaning." I don't think she understands the impact she has had on all of our lives. I hope she does now.
Here is Beck singing the Lululu song to his little sister after a little new baby photo shoot (go to Flickr for a sample of those.):
Wow, I'm like the anti-catcher in the rye! the rest of those lyrics, by the way, are:
loo loo loo I've got some apples,
loo loo loo... you've got some too,
loo loo loo let's make some apple sauce
take off our clothes and loo loo loo.
and the scene immediately following this clip is butters explaining erections to Jimmy:
You see Jimmy, when a mans penis becomes hard the man puts it into a lady, into her *vagina*. Then, the hard penis sneezes milk inside the ladies tunnel and after it's all done sneezing milk the penis stops being hard and the man looses interest in the lady.
if you want to block my IP I understand. Seriously though, she's gorgeous. My neices never opened their eyes long enough to take such good shots.
Also, I like that the names have meaning... I always give me sister crap for naming her youngest "Aubrey," quoting Tim Meadows from Mean Girls: "I'm sorry, I have a nephew named Anfernee and I know how angry he gets when I call him Anthony. Almost as angry as I get every time I realize my sister named him Anfernee."

I love family names. It is such a nice way to recognize someone. Now, if I could just figure out a way to get someone to name a baby after me...

Nice "Exorcist" reference... that should come in handy, oh, every day for the next fifteen months or so as Lulu repeatedly spews gallons of demonic goo all over you.
Also, I love the fact that you named your daughter after a 65-year old woman in red leather pants.

a) I had a tantrum once and screamed "Your mother sucks cocks in hell." My college roommate screamed "The power of Christ compels you." And then called the RA.
b) she's lovely. that photo is amazing.
c) i call my best friend's daughter "Butters."
d) amazingly, the roommate from A is now the best friend from C.

those pictures are so gorgeous they are making my ovaries twitch...knock it off. you two make some precious little offspring, huh? even when they lean over to their demon side.
i love family names, too- what a good irish girl you are, siobhan. btw, i'm trying to gently encourage friends expecting a girl in january to consider siobhan. they're looking at maeve and maire, also roisin. i figured, what's a little siobhan thrown into the mix? better than sinead, for sure.
